Editor’s note: This is the latest installment in our weekly series called simply the “Friday Photo.” Each week we’ll share a great photo taken from the cockpit – one that shares the joy, beauty or fun of flying. The view: NASA Space Shuttle Landing Facility, Titusville, FL
The pilot: Michael Janik (photographer Matthew Aberman)
The airplane: Cessna 172
The mission: To make a low pass over the 15,000 ft runway previously used to land the space shuttle
The memory: Flying over this runway made me think of the select number of people that have been able to see this sight picture through their windshield. Only astronauts and aviators have been able to see this great piece of American history. It’s an honor to be a pilot and have these kinds of opportunities that the general public will never be able to have. It makes me happy and honored to be a pilot every day of my life.

So that’s what it would look like returning from orbit in a 172. Neat shot.
Great photo
I’m a low time but 44 yr pilot out of Chicago and still fascinated every time out around this city and in the 310 to Tennessee farms usually no camera tho
That is an awesome photo!!! Pretty cool!
The people who built it are also a part of this masterpiece, even though they may not be pilots. To those people- Good job!!
