The view: The Grand Canyon
The pilot: Steve Rudner
The photographer: Steve Rudner
The airplane: 1965 Piper Cherokee 140
The mission: Ever since I got my pilot certificate back in 1968, I’ve always wanted to fly over the Grand Canyon. I finally got to do it in January 2014.
The memory: My wife Sally and I started our flight at our home airport: Phoenix Deer Valley (DVT). We flew direct to the Grand Canyon to fly northbound on the “Zuni Point Corridor” (depicted on the Grand Canyon National Park Special Flight Rules Area chart). We then turned back southbound to land at Valle (40G) just south of the Grand Canyon airport (GCN) to stop for fuel and some friendly conversation. The views of the Grand Canyon were spectacular. It’s truly one of those awe-inspiring moments that you will never forget.
Editor’s note: This is the latest installment in our weekly series called simply the “Friday Photo.” Each week we’ll share a great photo taken from the cockpit – one that shares the joy, beauty or fun of flying. If you’d like to join in, send your photo and description (using the format above) to: [email protected]
