The view: 2500 feet over northern lower Michigan, in the vicinity of Gaylord
The pilot: Tony Buttacavoli
The airplane: Yankee Air Museum C-47D (N8704) – “Hairless Joe”
The mission: Mackinac Island-bound
The memory: This wonderful Douglas, lovingly built in 1945, is a great way to watch the world go by. Here, we enjoyed near-peak autumnal colors.

Beautiful picture. But I have a question — what are those two objects pointing skyward in front of the prop hub?
They are aerials , part of the Rebecca antenna array . Thanks
Thanks, just proves you can learn something new every day! I had a close encounter with an EC-47 over northern Laos one when it flew through an airstrike I was controlling. When the airstrike was over, I chased him down. That story was published here last December 16th, titled ‘Close Encounters of the Worst Kind’.
Outstanding!!!
