About Dan Long
Dan recently completed a 26-year career as an agricultural scientist with the USDA Agricultural Research Service and Montana Agricultural Experiment Station. He served in the USCG as a flight mechanic from 1971 to 1977. In 1980, he purchased his first airplane, a Cessna 150, with the intention of obtaining a private pilot license. His second airplane, a Cessna 172, was used extensively as a camera platform for obtaining aerial imagery of crops and soils in support of agricultural research in Montana and Oregon. Currently, he is flying the 1939 Aeronca Chief that resulted from its 10-yr restoration beginning in 2009.
