The view: The Hollywood Sign – Los Angeles, CA

The pilot: P.J. Ochlan

The airplane: C-172N

The mission: Cross-country from Van Nuys Airport (KVNY) to San Bernardino International Airport (KSBD).

The memory: One of the busiest general aviation airports in the world — for destinations east, SoCal Departure will often direct pilots along the ridge of the Hollywood Hills through the Burbank class Charlie, skirting the LAX class Bravo to the south. Passing over Mt. Lee on my way to San Bernardino, a glance and quick snap below delivered my new favorite view of this iconic landmark. Aviation has brought me a new perspective — literally and figuratively — of a city and sign that have been part of my life for decades.
