The pilot: Doran Jaffas
The airplane: My Tailwind W-8, powered with an 0-200A and built by James Shiver in Alabama. First flown in 2002, I’ve owned it for two years and have just over 100 hours in it—and I’m enjoying every minute!
The mission: A plane for pure enjoyment and the occasional long trip.
The memory: One of those rare times that no wealth could purchase and only a true aviator understands.

Doran has been passionate about flying for over 50 years, since his first ride at 4 years of age. He has been licensed for 36 years and still feels like a kid every time he hits the starter button or even opens the hangar door. Though he has several ratings and endorsements, there is nothing like the tail coming up, the bird lifting off, and together heading for another adventure to anywhere. He has taken many for their first rides and is always fascinated by their reactions. Years ago, Doran's flight examiner admonished him it was a license to learn. How true those words are still today.
