The mission: Christmas Day flight, working towards a tailwheel endorsement
The memory: Words cannot express the feeling that comes over you as you leave the earth and look around at God’s creation. As the sun begins to disappear on the horizon, and the shadows begin to stretch across the ground, for the moment, the earth seems to be calm and peaceful.
In 2000, Martin had mitral valve replacement surgery and thought that all hopes of obtaining a pilot's license were gone. In 2010, he obtained his 3rd class medical special issuance, and began training. To date he has gotten his Instrument Rating and is a volunteer pilot for Angel Flight. He also participates in the National Day of Prayer, Prayer Flight each year, and has flown supplies in after hurricanes.
