Friday Photo: backcountry flying in a Super Cub

Click on image for full size.

The view: Loon Creek in the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness, Idaho

The plane: Piper PA-18 Super Cub

The pilot: Jody Kochansky

The mission: Landing at Upper Loon Creek USFS air strip (U72)

The memory: I was taking a course at McCall Mountain Canyon Flying School based in McCall, ID. Given that all my previous flight time was in a Cirrus, there were so many firsts for me in the training: tailwheel, grass and dirt strips, canyon flying… The instructors and staff at McCall guided us through with patient instruction and incredible aviation stories. I’m a better pilot for the experience!
