The airplane: 2012 Cessna Turbo Skylane

The mission: On descent to Stearman Field near Wichita, KS, at the conclusion of a business trip.

The memory: It was a silky-smooth IFR flight from KIXD to 1K1 in which I was treated to a beautiful sunset, a view those on the ground didn’t have the benefit of enjoying that winter evening. Although my pilot husband and I often fly together, that evening I was alone flying this great machine while drinking in this amazing sight. The flight ended with an uneventful GPS RNAV approach to 1K1. We pilots get to enjoy so many breathtaking sights those on terra firma never get to see.

Growing up in an aviation-centric household, Dianne White was destined to fly. Combining her passion for aviation and talents as a writer, she has spent the past 30 years working as a professional journalist and communications professional.
