The view: 5,500’ over the North Carolina mountains north of Asheville, NC, Asheville Regional Airport (KAVL).
The pilot: Adam Riehl, Greenwood, SC
The airplane: Grumman AA1A N706LG
The mission: Weekend mountain getaway, KGRD-KGCY.
The memory: One of my favorite pictures. It was a glassy smooth evening with the leaves changing colors. Gorgeous!

Adam, I agree it is a beautiful area to go flying. But then most areas are. As I found, if you will go onto the EAA site and put in Sat morning pancake breakfasts you’ll find there are so many within an hour of flying. I flew out of LZU (Lawrenceville GA), and there were 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Sat of the months breakfasts. Each at a different airport. What a great time of the day to fly and a reason to go somewhere. And meet many like minded people.
Hope you have many good memories and stories to tell others so they might get interested in flying and witnessing the joy of flying.
Bob
Nice landscapes! Once, flying North from Florida, we almost landed at Asheville. Ended up at Monroe instead. We did not see mountains until later that week, in Virginia.
