Roberto's passion for aviation was instilled as a kid by his uncle and hero, Edmundo Carvajal, a former Air Force Chief in Ecuador. He became a private pilot in 1971 when he purchased a 1961 Cessna 172, flying all around Venezuela, inspiring several friends and his three brothers to become pilots. In 1974, he upgraded to a 1964 Mooney M20F and in 1977 with two other partners bought YV-850P, a 1976 Piper Seneca II. In 1985, Roberto and his close friend Mark became the sole owners of the plane, enjoying many years of flying in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, the Caribbean, and several trips to the USA and Canada, to SUN 'n FUN, AirVenture Oshkosh, and Alaska. Roberto sold YV-850 in 2019, after 48 years and 4200 flight hours.
