Maurice was late to the aeronautical scene. Born and raised in Belvidere, NJ, he moved to Peoria after high school and then completed an apprenticeship to become a patternmaker with Caterpillar Tractor, which included two years in Korea. He retired as a metallurgical engineer, learned to fly at age 62, and bought a Cessna 150 from a friend. In the next twenty years, he spent about 1400 hours in that beautiful straight-tailed airplane. At age 82 he bought a Sonex “Onex” kit and completed it in 2014. He currently has 260 hours in that shiny airplane and dreads the thought of having to give it all up.
