Living the dream
As college in the mid-1960s moved along, our involvement in Vietnam began to ramp up. The draft was scooping up people my age from sea to shining sea. I decided to stay in ROTC and get a commission to keep the draft at bay.
A graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Lanny Tonning came to New Mexico as an officer in the US Air Force after serving a tour in Vietnam. Since 1972, he has worked in publishing, advertising and public relations for a wide variety of Albuquerque based public and private entities including PNM, The NM Business Journal, the Office of the Mayor, The Albuquerque Museum and Bio-Tech Imaging.
With his wife, Linda, Lanny co-founded Bike In Coffee, a unique coffee bar/restaurant focused primarily on serving the cycling community.
He has served on the board of directors for local non-profits and civic organizations. As a private pilot, he is a volunteer pilot for LightHawk, an organization that provides flights to decision makers to “accelerate conservation success through the powerful perspective of flight.”
