The mission: Flying the Hudson VFR corridor

The memory: My instructor, Justin, and I flew the Hudson VFR corridor on Halloween night 2024. Justin taught me the tricks of night flying, while we treated ourselves to a magnificent view of the New York City skyline. The stiff 25 knot headwind on the downriver leg provided us with the perfect pace to fully appreciate the majestic Manhattan skyscrapers, as if we were gliding through the city in slow motion. This flight marked my very first nighttime practice, while it was Justin’s final goodbye flight with our school. I am deeply grateful for my pilot journey and all the wonderful people and breathtaking views along the way.

My surgical training brought me into the aviation world! I used to watch NTSB investigations where I admired the honest analysis of mistakes and the drive to use a tragedy to make flying a safe and enjoyable experience.

When moving from Lebanon to the United States in 2023 for further surgical training, I quickly sought out nearby flying schools in Long Island, New York. I began private pilot lessons even before getting my DMV license. The experience has been incredibly rewarding. It made me a better person and a better surgeon.
