A special invitation to Air Facts readers

Join us at Sporty’s in celebrating the life of Richard Collins

Richard L. Collins
Celebrating an aviation icon.

Those of us who counted Richard as a friend and mentor are gathering on Saturday, October 13, 2018, at Sporty’s headquarters at the Clermont County Airport, Batavia, Ohio (I69). We will honor Richard by dispersing some of his ashes in a brief ceremony. We will also remember the life of Joe Vorbeck, another legendary aviation educator and a collaborator with Richard on many Sporty’s projects.

Both Richard’s and Joe’s families will be in attendance.

Following the ceremony, you are invited as Sporty’s guest to a buffet lunch. Just like Richard, this event is casual and will go forward rain or shine.

  • Hello,
I have no opportunity to come to the celebration. Still I thank you for the invitation. I have his writings, and always followed his latest insights.

He flies well above us all!

  • Wish I could make it, but work schedules do not permit. Richard was a great writer and source of knowledge. I have many of his books, and was able to meet him once. In the 80s, I had the privilege of having Joe Vorbeck as instructor for an instrument ground school class. He was a great teacher. It is good you are paying tribute to both of these great names in aviation.

  • I have received sooo many educational, VERY interesting, and useful ‘hints’ Richard Collins provided for me and the Aviation Community for many years. I can remember most ALL of them; and know his comments were very, VERY useful in my ~60 years of flying. We have lost a VERY inspiring and knowledgeable Aviation ‘Nut’ that WILL be missed. However, the ‘hints’ and Comments he has provided for so many years WILL be used by the Aviation World forever! Thank you, THANK YOU, THANK YOU+ Richard Collins!

  • Met Richard once in Wichita at the Beechcraft facility during the introduction of their new 1976 models. He was there to do a write-up. Also had Joe Vorbeck as an AOPA weekend ground school instructor in 1972 for my instrument rating. This event will bring back many memories.
