The view: Mongers Lake – 150nm northeast of Perth, Western Australia

The pilot: Geoff van Schie

The airplane: Cessna 172M

The mission: Returning home after another five-day volunteer mission to teach Christian Value Educational classes to mainly indigenous children in four remote schools. This is the fifth and final leg from Yalgoo (YYAL) to Wongan Hills (YWOH). This leg was 1.5 hours of a total 8 hours plus for the week.

The memory: All six weeks of flying these IFR missions, up to and including this flight, had the added challenge of IMC weather conditions with the need at times to seek from ATC diversions up to 20nm off route to avoid thunderstorms. This was the first leg clear of challenging weather giving a beautifully clear view of normally dry salt lakes now filling with water.
