The mission: Basic student maneuvers, aircraft familiarization and “enjoying the ride.”
The memory: This was the 4th time I flew alone after my solo. Peaking at over 13,000 feet, Mt. Tom is the main focal point from the valley floor. 60 miles to the south of Mt. Tom on the Sierra range stands Mt. Whitney, the tallest peak in the contiguous United States at over 14,300 feet. 45 miles north of Mt. Tom is Mammoth Lakes, home of the largest ski/snowboard resort in the US, boasting 400+ inches of snow annually. The Owens Valley is one of the most beautiful valleys to live in and the outstanding views coupled with the minimal air traffic around KBIH makes this a unique place to learn.
