The view: Amsterdam, canals along the 16th century city center from 1100 ft AGL.

The pilot: Gerhard van Roon

The airplane: Cessna 172

The mission: Shooting aerial pictures for Amsterdam Business Magazine AMS

The memory: Orbiting for aerial work over the center of Amsterdam is always exciting. As the city is very close to the country’s main aerodrome “Schiphzl,” ATC clearance is only given at a certain wind direction, just in case some big piece of metal has to go-around. A 172 hanging at the extended centerline can give some inconvenience. So it takes paperwork and preparation, but once over the target and the safety pilot has taken the yoke with me hanging with my cameras out of the window, I am sure that there isn’t a job in the world as beautiful and satisfying as mine!
