Mt Cook 600px

Click on image for full size

The view: Mt. Cook in the Southern Alps of New Zealand, the highest mountain in New Zealand at 12,218 ft.

The pilot: Gil Powers

The airplane: 180hp Cessna 172

The mission: Mountain flight training with the good folks of Fly-inn at the Geordie Hill Sheep Station

The memory: Mt. Cook is one of the most beautiful places on earth and a must-fly place for every pilot. What an adventure flying through the valleys of this mesmerizing scenery of glades, glaciers, fjords, off shore islands and mountains. Combine beautiful scenery and wonderfully warm, friendly, people and you have my most memorable flight experience in 39 years.

Editor’s note: This is the latest installment in our weekly series called simply the “Friday Photo.” Each week we’ll share a great photo taken from the cockpit – one that shares the joy, beauty or fun of flying. Hi Gil, and thank you for your kind comments regarding your exerience in southern New Zealand.
Just letting you know the posted photo is of the equally picturesque Mount Aspiring which is about 90 miles south-west of Aoraki/Mount Cook. Looks like you had a good explore :-)
